Blake Smith - Head Principal

B Smith

This is Mr. Smith's first year as the principal of Newton High School. Mr. Smith became an assistant principal at NHS in 2019.  Prior to that, he has spent nine years as a science teacher at Maize South High School. He also was a lecturer at Wichita State University where he taught second-year teachers who have transitioned into teaching. Before teaching, Mr. Smith was a meteorologist and worked at a number of stations across the country including KAKE TV in Wichita. He has a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Emporia State, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Wichita State and a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science from University of Arizona.

Brian Becker - Athletic Director/Assistant Principal

B Becker

Mr. Becker started as an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at NHS in 2015.  Beginning with the 20-21 school year, Mr. Becker will be the Athletic Director for both Newton High School and Chisholm Middle School and Assistant Principal for the high school. Prior to coming to USD 373,  he was the Athletic Director at Wichita North High School.  He has also served as the Athletic Director for Hesston USD 460, was an Interim Professor of Business at Bethel College, and taught Business & Computers along with coaching at Valley Center High School.  He graduated with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Business Education from Kansas State University, and his Master of Arts in School Leadership from Baker University.

Derek Bristol - Assistant Principal

D Bristol

Mr. Bristol is in his second year at Newton High School. He came to us last year from Maize South High School. Prior to working in Maize, Mr. Bristol taught at Chisholm Middle School in Newton for 19 years. Mr. Bristol was born and raised on the western slope of Colorado. Upon graduating from high school, he went to the University of Sioux Falls. He then attended and graduated from Sterling College where he studied education and played football. After graduating from Sterling, he was hired at Chisholm Middle School where he taught several different classes. During his time teaching at Chisholm, he also coached football at the middle school and high school levels, and coached football at Bethel College. He also coached middle school track and field during that time. He also has master's degrees from Wichita State University and Baker University. Mr. Bristol serves as assistant principal for students with last names H-O.

Tiffany Stephey - Assistant Principal

T Stephey

Ms. Stephey will begin her 2nd year as an Assistant Principal at Newton High School.  Ms. Stephey grew up in Newton and graduated from Hesston High School. She graduated from Wichita State with a History and Education degree and went on to get her Master’s in School Leadership from Baker University. She has been in education for 20 years. During her free time, she loves traveling, backpacking, paddleboarding, training for Half Ironman triathlons, and spending time with her family and two dogs.  Ms. Stephey will work with students whose last names start with P-Z.

Tige Stone - Assistant Principal

T Stone

Although this is his first year at NHS, Mr, Stone is going into his 14th year as a school administrator including the last 8 in Colwich as principal of a PreK - 8 building. He has also served as an athletic director at Council Grove and Ark City High School. Stone Coached football from 2002 - 2007 at Butler Community College as well as coaching football, wrestling and track at the high school levels. Stone grew up in Goodland, KS and attended Garden City CC (AA in Communications), Kansas State (BS in Sec. Ed - History), Baker University (MA in School Leadership) Emporia State (District Leadership Program)

Diane Moser  - Director of Career and Technical Education

D Moser

Mrs. Moser is in her third year at Newton High School. She previously taught Social Studies for 16 years at Maize High School as well as dual credit through WSU-Tech. Mrs. Moser graduated from Wichita State with a degree in Secondary Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. She is beginning her 19th year in education. The last two years she has served in the role of College and Career Advocate and is looking forward to continuing the great things at Newton High School and the CTE program. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and dogs, reading, traveling, and attending her son’s sporting events.
