Dear Railer Families,

I’m thrilled with the school year we’re having and particularly what our yearbook staff is doing to permanently record it for us all. Please be aware that we are proudly partnering with our yearbook publisher, Jostens, over the next few weeks to keep you fully informed of important yearbook matters. In a world saturated by fleeting, digital sound bites, let’s all work together to put something permanent and meaningful in our kids’ hands.

Because our order deadline with the printing plant is quickly approaching, now is the time to ensure your student receives a copy of this year’s book, which will deliver prior to summer.

You can easily visit Jostens.com or use the web link you’ll be receiving in any of the upcoming reminders prior to Feb. 17. You can also bring a check to the school office if you’d prefer.

Please note: personalization of the book will no longer be available after Feb. 17, and once our order is placed with the printing plant, your student is not guaranteed a copy if you’ve not preordered one.

I am enjoying this year with your student, and I hope you’ll support our efforts to celebrate it by reserving your student’s yearbook before Feb. 17.

Please contact Robin Montano at robin.montano@usd373.org if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Lisa Moore

Based off the recent 2014 Student Data Privacy Act, we now are required to have written parent consent for your student to take this survey.  The purpose of the survey is to gather information to combat such problems as alcohol and other drug use, bullying, gambling, tobacco and violence in our schools and communities.  The survey is anonymous and participation in the survey is voluntary.

Sophomores and Seniors will be given a Parent Consent Letter in their seminar classes on January 20.  Parents will need to check yes or no/sign and then have their student return the form back to their seminar teacher by February 1.  (students that are 18 may sign for themselves) This letter is available to download below (KCTC Parent Consent spring 2016)  The survey will be taken during seminar on February 3 to those students who are willing to participate.

Please contact Mr. Dietz at Gregory.dietz@usd373.org if you have any questions.

Thank you for your cooperation.   NHS Administration

As preparation for the upcoming season, Newton High debate is getting ready to host its annual summer debate camp from July 28th through August 1st. While in the past the camp was only offered to students attending Newton High School,  we are pleased to announce that for the first time we are opening the camp up to include students in grades 5th-8th. Middle school kids will focus on improving communication skills, out loud reading skills and other events including many Forensics events. The HS camp will focus on developing argumentation skills, learning contemporary debate theory, and also learning all about this year’s topic.

The topic for this upcoming season is:

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its non-military exploration and/or development of the Earth's oceans.

When: July 28th through August 1st.  9am-12pm and 1pm-3pm
